Curriculum: Year 7-10

The school curriculum through years 7-10 are based around the three AusVels strands listed below:

Discipline-Based Learning

Students learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the arts, English, humanities, mathematics, science and other languages.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Students explore different ways of thinking, solving problems and communicating. They learn to use a range of technologies to plan, analyse, evaluate and present their work. Students learn about creativity, design principles and processes.

Physical, Personal and Social Learning

Students learn about themselves and their place in society. They learn how to stay healthy and active.

Students develop skills in building social relationships and working with others. They take responsibility for their learning, and learn about their rights and responsibilities as global citizens.

Year 7 & 8

In Years 7 and 8, all students undertake the following curriculum:

  • Home Economics
  • Health
  • Textiles
  • Materials Technology (Woodwork)
  • Digital Technology

Year 9

Starting in Year 9, students begin attending the North Central Trade Training Centre in Charlton every Friday. Students are able to pick from:

  • Automotive
  • Metalwork
  • Woodwork
  • Agriculture
  • Media
  • Visual Communication
  • Textiles

The Year 9 curriculum closely follows Year 7 & 8. But with a few key differences, the subjects undertaken are:

  • English
  • History
  • Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Physical Education
  • Health

In addition to this, students are able to choose 1 of 3 electives to undertake:

  • Home Economics
  • Materials Technology (Woodwork)
  • Art

Year 10

More elective subjects are offered in Year 10, giving the students far more choice to explore their interests, these include:

  • English
  • Maths General or Maths Extension
  • Geography
  • History or History Extension
  • Science or Science Extension
  • Physical Education
  • Personal Growth

As well as this, students are still offered Home Economics, Materials Technology or Art.

Students also decide whether they want to continue with NCTTC at Charlton one day a week, undertaking a VET subject where upon completion students will receive a Certificate.

Or students may stay at school in Donald, and begin VCE, studying Unit 1 Health & Human Development, and Unit 1 Sports Science.
