Curriculum: Year 11-12
Year 11 is where the students are really able to explore what’s on offer. One major choice students will have to make is whether they want to continue with traditional VCE studies, or switch to Vocational Major (VOM) instead, undertaking a VET subject and work-placement (school-based apprenticeship).
Subject choices are entirely up to students, and thanks to video conferencing, virtually all subjects (that’s over 90) are avaliable.
Year 11
All VCE students undertake Units 1 & 2 English. This is the only compulsory subject as stated by VCAA.
All other subjects are by student choice, but the most common ones this year included:
- General Maths
- Maths Methods
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Accounting
- Studio Arts
- Physical Education
- Health & Human Development
- Geography
- Psychology
Year 12
Much like Year 11, Units 3 & 4 English are mandatory and must be completed to achieve your Year 12 certificate.
Like Year 11, many students go on to study Units 3 & 4 of the subjects they were already undertaking in Year 11, so the choices are almost the same:
- General Maths
- Maths Methods
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Accounting
- Studio Arts
- Physical Education
- Health & Human Development
- Geography
- Psychology
Vocational Major
The other option for Year 11 and 12 students is to take up Vocational Major (VOM). Students head over to Charlton one day a week to complete their VET subject of choice.
In addition, students spend another day on work placement, with the ability to undertake a school-based apprenticeship.
During the 3 days Vocational Major students are at school, they will learn:
- Literacy Foundation
- Mathematics Foundation
- Work Related Skills
- Personal Development Skills
